Look, I don't think you're understanding the problem here. The issue isn't that there isn't cutscenes, the issue is that Bethesda's method of providing the story is stiff, unemotional, and dated. It's the same method from Oblivion from over 15 years ago. They also just have the characters blurt out so much information it gets boring especially if you don't understand the universe. Their constant long unbroken sentences just don't feel natural and the body language is basically robots.
If they want to do live cutscenes then take a page out of Cyberpunk 2077 and have mocapped movement and blocking so it feels more real. Now again there's multiple problems here with their design philosophy.
But at the same time if the universe interesting then maybe I'd forgive it.
Halo 1 had full video cutscenes. The non-shitty star wars battlefront games had cutscenes. This isn’t so much an issue of the times as an issue of you not liking this particular form of delivery. I, again, do not mind it.
We aren’t going to agree on the world being outright bad either, I maintain that the world is one of the most redeeming aspects of this game. Just the other day I popped by Titan, got a tour of the first permanent human settlement off of earth from a boss who sounds like a used car salesman, scared away tourists with a monster suit and got into a fight with a dude who doesn’t want his family moving to the goddurn big city. This is where the game shines in my book, and feels a bit more like oblivion, you can just go somewhere and be sure you’ll find something memorable.
Really, so critics and gamers saying the dishing of the story information being boring and dated, they're wrong?
I get that you don't mind it, but doesn't mean it's not an issue. I don't mind radiant quest but a lot of people hate them.
Elighten me though exactly what is great about Starfield's world building. I'm interested. Again I've played Starfield for over a hundred hours and I've done I believe almost everything that the game has to offer. We might actually agree on some aspects but I'm curious.
Oh the main story and radiant quests were ass. But that doesn’t mean the methods of presentation themselves were incorrect, I just don’t agree with that.
As for what I’ve liked. I already mentioned the New Atlantis museum. The present but believable bias, the dynamic between these factions and how they shape one another was an absolute delight. I enjoy being able to talk with npcs and find something worth my time at almost any location with non-generics.
Okay I'll agree that if the writing and overall quality of the quest were better the format wouldn't bother. But with the lack of quality control it's much more noticeable that this is dated.
The Vanguard questline is fun and I enjoy it. The museum is great, but what else is there aside from that questline?
Alright so based on this pole it appears Cydonia is the worst thing ever made by human hands. Let's break it down.
- Cydonia: While I actually think it's a cooler idea than Akila City, it's size somehow is the worst in the entire game. To think 100s of years on probably the oldest colony, and that's all Mars has to show.
It is an incredibly nothing location. Nothing but prefab plastic and metal buildings. Again the vanguard questline shines through though, the abandoned mine and red devil hq were cooler locations than anything in the actual city.
Why no love for Cydonia? It’s awesome!
What about it is awesome?
I played cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield on the series x.
What do you think?
