A Break at Dawn is a miscellaneous mission for UC Security in Starfield.
Objectives[]
- Speak to Royce at the Dawn's Roost
- Resolve the situation with Hugo Fournier
- Report to Sergeant Yumi
Walkthrough[]
Talk to Yumi. He will state a report just came in about a scuffle at the Dawn's Roost. UC Security on-site near the restaurant handled the scuffle, but now one of the patrons is claiming that the other patron stole his wedding ring. Apparently, this patron (Royce Elgin) left before identifying the perpetrator. Yumi needs your help resolving this. He asks you to go speak to Royce and see if that conversation will reveal who the ring thief is.
Once at the Dawn's Roost, speak to Royce. He explains that the fight was between two drunk men: Hugo and Octavio, who have been dining together for a long time and haven't had any prior issues. From Royce's description, it seems they were in a relationship — they dined with candles and other accessories quite often. Royce will then point you to the potential thief: Hugo Fournier at Athena Tower.
Travel to Athena Tower, a short walk away (it is marked with a quest marker).
When you arrive, Hugo will be upset. He reveals that him and Octavio were engaged. The dinner they had was supposed to be the last one before they cemented their commitment via marriage. However, Hugo explains that while cleaning, he found a napkin from the Dawn's Roost with a phone number written on it that fell out of Octavio's pants. He claims that this is cheating, and that Octavio threw their 5-year relationship away by having this napkin in his pants. Hugo states there is nothing that can be done to repair their relationship now.
Hugo then explains that, from his perspective, the engagement ring is actually his property. When Octavio proposed, that meant the ring was “gifted” to him, and is not Octavio's property anymore.
You can either:
- Persuade Hugo to give up the engagement ring OR
- Agree with Hugo that the ring is his property and tell him he is free to go
If you persuade Hugo to give up the engagement ring, he will give the item Engagement ring to you.
If you fail the persuasion check, Hugo mentions you can try to convince him to give up the ring again once he has cooled off. [more detail needs to be added to the wiki regarding this option]
Regardless of what you choose, you have to return to Sergeant Yumi.
If you chose to take the ring from Hugo, you have two options:
- Give the ring to UC Security
- Keep the ring, explaining it was a gift (this allows you to sell the ring)
If you chose to let Hugo keep the ring, you only get the option to explain the ring was a gift.
Regardless of your choice, you will receive the same reward. The only difference is the dialogue with Yumi.
Rewards[]
- Levelled credits
- 100 XP
Notes/Trivia[]
- Hugo will sometimes refer to Octavio as Iothario.
- In some countries, such as the United States, who “owns” the ring is ruled this way:
- If the parties legally marry, then the ring belongs to the wife (or receiver of the ring).
- If the parties do not legally marry (they never actually formalize their marriage), then the ring is the property of the husband (or the gifter of the ring).
- By this logic, Octavio is the correct recipient of the ring, and it should be given to Sergeant Yumi.
- In other countries, such as the United Kingdom, who “owns” the ring is ruled this way:
- An engagement ring is considered to be a gift, thus becoming the property of the recipient, regardless of whether or not the couple marry.
- By this logic, Hugo is the correct recipient of the ring, and should be allowed to keep it.
- It appears you cannot sell the ring while the quest is still active. Once the quest completes, if you kept the ring, you are able to sell it.
- Yumi unlocks new dialogue after this quest:
- “I'm starting to run out of credits to give you. Whoever said crime doesn't pay?”
