Starfield Wiki

The Aceles, informally also referred to as Space Moose,[1] is an endangered creature found in Starfield. They are a hunter species against Terrormorphs,[2] and are able to thrive anywhere.[1] It can be reintroduced to the galaxy through choices made in the UC Vanguard questline. Trained Aceles, which have green hides, can be encountered should the Aceles be reintroduced.

Background[]

The Aceles finds its origin on Toliman II, they are the predator of the Terrormorph[1] and their younger variant, the Heatleech,[1][3] which are likewise most common on Toliman II. However, the creature is known to have been present on other worlds, too, and on these planets Terrormorphs were not found.[1]

Despite their large stature, they are not hostile to humans[4] which resulted in them being used as livestock. The United Colonies spread the Aceles far and wide in food production[3] during the Colony War as the UC began to run out of synthetic food, and chose to use the Aceles as a substitute, which led the Aceles to near-extinction. Londinion was the central hub for Aceles processing during the war effort.[1]

With the Aceles population on Toliman II greatly reduced, the Heatleeches and Terrormorphs on the planet were provided with the means to thrive, which eventually resulted in the Terrormorph outbreak in Londinion.[1]

Weapon Against the Terrormorphs[]

The Aceles would eventually be rediscovered as a potential weapon against the Terrormorph threat in 2330, with the other being a microbe. The species was harvested to near-extinction, with only a few Aceles having survived the United Colonies' food processing project.[1] Aceles samples were gathered from the Londinion Aceles processing plant on Toliman II in the Toliman system,[5] with the plan to breed populations of the creature and distribute them across the worlds settled by humans, potentially speeding up the breeding process through the use of cloning technology.[1]

The arguments in favor of the Aceles being that they are already a tool known to have worked in the past,[3] and that the microbe, due to its fast development time, might mutate and thus also pose a threat to ecosystems or humans.[6] Another point in the favor of the Aceles was that they were already known to have tracked Heatleeches, something the microbe would need to be altered for.[3] There was also a fear that Terrormorphs may develop a resistance to the microbe, which would have made its effect worthless.[4]

A common argument against using the Aceles was that it would take a long time for them to mature and be deployed,[4] which would in turn mean that Terrormorphs would be able to strike against human targets for a longer time period.[7][8][9][10][11] Despite this, after being chosen, the Aceles population grows ahead of expectations.[12]

Interactions[]

Hostile Intelligence[]

The first Aceles in the game is seen in the Red Devil Headquarters as Hardrian speaks of them during this quest.

Random Encounters[]

Two random encounters feature the Aceles. The first is one in which three soldiers of the UC Vanguard are transporting it across a planet due to a report of a Terrormorph.

The second encounter features up to two Aceles fighting a Terrormorph on a planet.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being stated to be the original predator of the Terrormorph, the Aceles typically loses in combat against Terrormorphs in random encounters.
