Dialogue[]

Show: Deep Cover

"Unless you're here to serve me a drink, you can turn around and walk away."

All right, all right... I'll go. "Smartest decision you've made all day."
I heard you might be able to help me move some cargo. "Oh yeah? Well, I don't know who the hell you are, so what makes you think I'm going to help you out?"
[Give Sample] Saoirse Bowden said you could help me move some of this. "Hey why don't you say that a little louder? I don't think every single UC Guard in Cydonia heard you."
"Okay, okay. Yeah... I think we can help you with this. If you've got a whole shipment of this stuff, you're going to need to move it fast, but you're going to have to do something for us first."
You're with the Crimson Fleet, right? "Pipe down. What the hell's the matter with you? You want to get us both thrown into lockup? Look, I dunno what that big-mouth Saoirse told you, but I keep who I run with a secret in public... and I suggest you do the same. Now. Do you want my help moving your product... or not?"
Who's "we" and "us"? I thought I was dealing with you. "You're a clever one aren't you? Let's just say I have a certain, influential affiliation... and leave it at that. Basically, you want that Aurora moved, I'm your guy."
Forget it. I'll just take the shipment to someone else. "*Laughs* Yeah, sure. If the Trade Authority won't even deal with a shipment of that crap, where else you gonna go? Just cool your thrusters for a minute before you wreck this deal for the both of us."
Saoirse never said anything about that. "Yeah, well, she isn't running the show here. I am."
No problem. "Right down to business, and no small talk. I like it."
"Now listen up, cause I'm not going to repeat myself. I need you to deal with a miner who's racked up a bunch of debt. He probably spent it all on booze, not that I blame him. Either way, I want that money back."
How loud do you want this to be? "What do I need to do here? Write you an instruction manual? You can do this loud, you can do this quiet. I don't care. I just want my goddamn money and I want this guy to remember who he screwed over."
I'll just kill him and take the money off his corpse. "Whoa, whoa, whoa... hang on a second. No one said anything about "killing." All I said was I want my money. How you handle that is up to you."
I'll just pay his debt off right now so we can get down to business. "Feel free to throw as many credits in my face as you want, but that isn't the point. We need to make an example out of this guy."
All right, I'll get it done. "Perfect."
[Bouncer] I've dealt with a few drunks in my day. Shouldn't be a problem. "Sounds like we're speaking the same language."
"His name's Karl Fielding. I think you'll find him wandering around the Deimos Miner's Quarters. Don't worry, you can't miss him. Just look for the most miserable-looking guy in the entire place."

If approached again:
-

Is this Karl Fielding business a test or something? "I can't believe I need to spell this out for you. But here goes. You're doing me a favor and in return, I'm doing you a favor. There are no free rides. That's how shit works around here. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you stand to make some serious money with us."
Since you seem to be in the business, can I borrow some credits? "What? Get the hell out of here, smartass. Just because I kicked a few credits Karl's way doesn't mean I'm opening a goddamn bank."

-
After dealing with Karl:
-

"Have something for me?"

What are you talking about? "Don't start that crap with me. I'm in no mood. Did you bring me the money Fielding owes me, or do I need to pay him a visit myself?"
Not yet, but I'm working on it. "Then get back out there and stop wasting my time."
[Pay 3000 Credits] Yeah, it's all here. "Well, would you look at that. I knew that bum was holding out on me. He going to be a problem anymore, or did he get the message?"
He won't be bothering anyone... ever again. "So that's how it went down, huh? Welp, I don't want to know anything about it."
I thought getting the money would be enough. "Well, damn. If you want to make a name for yourself in this racket, you can't pull any punches. Still, you got my credits back, so it's not a complete loss."
He got the message. "Nice... nice. You're kind of a natural at this. Leaning on deadbeats comes easy to you. I like that."
"You know, if you like this kind of work, I can get you more. A lot more. You think you can handle running with my, uh... associates?"
Who exactly are your "associates"? "Ha ha! That's what I'm talking about! I like your style."
I don't know, maybe. "No, no, no, no. There's no "maybe." If you want to join up with us, you have to push every damn chip you've got into the pot. I'm talking all in. So can you handle it, or what?"
Yeah, I'm interested. ""I'm interested?" Come on! You're not shopping for real estate here. I'm offering you a crack at some REAL money. So can you handle it, or what?"
If you think they can handle me. "Ha ha! That's what I'm talking about! I like your style. All right. I'll call ahead and get ahold of Naeva Mora. She's second to the big boss himself. Head out to Europa. You'll find her there. I suggest you listen to whatever she has to say. Oh, and I've taken care of that Aurora shipment for you, too. Don't spend all that cash in one place."
Show: Burden of Proof

"Oh, I'm so glad you're here! I swear, this is all just a big misunderstanding."

Why would you be happy to see me? "Oh, well I just figured we got along so well back there in Cydonia, you might remember everything that I did for you and return the favor. I know you were just doing your job, so I'm not going to hold that against you. I could really use the help."
Stop whining. "I'm not whining, I'm trying to explain."
Tell it to the adjudicator. "I shouldn't have to plead my case, I wasn't committing a crime."
I found solid evidence that you had committed a crime. "Me? Commit a crime? No. You have it all wrong."
"Do you have any idea how tough it is to earn your way in Cydonia? Either you spend all day in the mines getting your lungs filled with Martian dust, or wear your fingers to the bone working on machinery. All I was trying to do was earn a living. Display a little bit of "entrepreneurial spirit." If trying to make a living is considered breaking the law, then lock me up and throw away the key."
Aren't you a member of the Crimson Fleet? "Well... yes, but that's only because they forced me into their ranks. You've met Naeva. You know how she is. She... uh, she threatened to kill me if I didn't do what she said. Come on, you've got to put in a good word for me."
Even if I agreed with you, there's nothing I can do. "So I'm wasting my breath? Okay, fine."
Cooperate with the authorities and maybe they'll go easy on you. "That's all you're going to say to me? Okay, fine."
You're not going to talk your way out of this one, Adler. "So that's how it is. All right, fine."
"I'll tell you this, though. The UC can't hold me forever. And when I get out, first thing I'm going to do is hunt you down."
I did you a favor putting you in here, because SysDef's taking down the Crimson Fleet. "Are you serious? You actually expect me to be grateful? I don't know SysDef's endgame, but I'd wager that you've bitten off far more than you can chew. No matter what you throw at the Fleet, Delgado will find a way out."
I did you a favor putting you in here, because the rest of the Crimson Fleet's been wiped out. "Are you serious? You actually think I owe you my life? I would have gladly died on the Key fighting to defend the Fleet. My only regret is being careless enough to get caught and thrown in this dump."
Where did SysDef arrest you? "Right at the Broken Spear, in front of everyone. Any reputation I may have had there is long gone thanks to that little stunt. On top of that, they caught me right in the middle of a... deal I was closing with some Long Haulers. I guess I can kiss that money goodbye."
Ever hear from Karl Fielding? "That drunken miner? No. Whatever you said to him must have sunk in, because I haven't seen him since you left Cydonia. He's lucky. If he would have stumbled into the Spear begging for credits again, I would have... well... use your imagination."
Anything ever happen with Karl Fielding's family? "Oh, you mean that drunken miner that YOU murdered? Yeah, I heard from them. Somehow they got the idea that I was responsible for Daddy Fielding's death, so they scraped all their money together and hired a bounty hunter. Cost me a month's earnings to get them off my back. So if you're trying to rub it in, you're doing a hell of a job."

"Interrogation complete? Good. Maybe I can get some rest."
