The Apex Parrothawk is an aggressive predatory creature capable of flight, native to Jemison.
Overview[]
Parrothawks are a medium sized predatory creatures that inhabit several biomes of Jemison. By comparison to the player or other humans, they are considerably large, having a wingspan that easily exceeds ten feet and being at least six feet tall. They share many features with earth birds, giving them the name Parrot-Hawks, although they appear more similar to a combination of parrots and vultures. In contrast, their predatory nature is much more akin to a hawk than a vulture. They can be found generally all over Jemison, from the Frozen Mountains at the poles all the way to the lower forests and grasslands.
Anatomy & Physiology[]
In many ways the Parrothawks are fairly similar to several species of birds found on Earth. It's biology is generally unique in comparison to other species found on Jemison, most notably their ability to fly is only found in one other species, the Flocking Seabat Geophage. By far their feature that separates them from earth birds is the complete lack of feathers anywhere on their body. Instead of feathers, the Parrothawk's body is covered in several layers of thick scales, which is much more similar to reptiles. Speaking realistically from a biological standpoint, the Parrothawk should be incapable of flight. Animals without feathers are capable of flight, like Bats, however this is because of very thin layers of skin and membrane. The Parrothawk however has extremely thick wings covered in several layers of scales, the parrothawk would not be able to fly because it would not be able to catch the air in a way that outnumbers it's weight in comparison to wind resistance and gravity. The Parrothawk, of course, flies anyway because parrothawks don't care what humans think is possible.
Their head is rather large in comparison to the heads of most birds with their bodies, however this does make sense as it has to accommodate a larger mouth as there aren't many creatures smaller than the parrothawk on Jemison. Their beak is sharpened into jagged edges, acting as "teeth" for grasping onto prey.
