Battle of Cheyenne

The Battle of Cheyenne was the final battle of the Colony War between the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies. It was fought within the Cheyenne star system in 2311. It ended in a pyrrhic Freestar victory.

Battle

Originally, the UC Navy had created a blockade over the Cheyenne system, as an outright invasion was considered too costly in resources and lives. They had hoped a blockade would have been sufficient to force the Freestar to submit. This failed, causing the war to persist for a longer period of time.

In 2311, the UC was on the verge of executing a major assault on the Cheyenne system, which would have defeated the central command of the Collective and ended the war. Just before the attack was launched, however, reports of a Terrormorph outbreak on Londinion came to light, which forced Fleet Admiral François Sanon to investigate the reports. Unable to quarantine the city due to the UC fleet being spread thin, and fearful of knowledge of the Lazarus Plant falling in the wrong hands, Admiral Sanon opted to destroy the Londinion spaceport — dooming those in the city, but preventing the outbreak from spreading further.

With the situation in Londinion resolved, Fleet Admiral Sanon returned to his original post and launched the attack on Cheyenne. The UC Navy had great success, crippling the Freestar fleet. The tides changed, however, when citizens of the Freestar Collective took to space in their civilian ships — joining in the battle by attacking the UC Navy.

Due to the civilian participation in the battle, other commanders of the UC Fleet lost their willingness to fight, causing a rout within the ranks as the remnants of the Freestar fleet, bolstered by their civilian counterparts, picked apart UC ships using hit-and-run tactics.

Shortly after the battle, the Freestar Collective and United Colonies came together to sign the Armistice, ending the conflict.
