Betty Howser is a non-playable character and recruitable crew member and companion found on the The Lucky Lu, in orbit over the planet Heinlein I.
Background[]
Betty grew up in Subsection 17 of The Well on Jemison. Her parents were petty thieves and pickpockets; a skill that Betty also learned and utilized in order to raise enough credits to purchase the Lucky Lu from the Trade Authority. This allowed her to leave The Well behind.
Betty is no stranger to killing for credits, as she has been a bounty hunter for longer than most. Her usual contacts often require eliminating competition or ending disagreements by implementing permanent solutions. Betty used to get her contracts from the Trackers Alliance; however, she now works solo, as to avoid people getting into her business and because she thinks they’re unreliable. Betty prefers machines to other things, one such machine being the Lucky Lu.
Betty ended up stranded above Heinlein I after taking out a bounty contract from some spacers to eliminate a pilot, who was attacking their ships. Unbeknownst to Betty, the pilot was a member of the Crimson Fleet, who upon learning of the attack, retaliated by shooting up the Lucky Lu, stealing its cargo, and towing Betty out to Heinlein to die.

She can be recruited by docking with the Lucky Lu, above the planet Heinlein I in the Heinlein system, and providing her with some Ship Parts.
