Chunks is a brand of food products in the Settled Systems. Its main product, the titular Chunks, are small artificial cubes made to resemble various foods and beverages.
Overview[]
Chunks was founded by entrepreneur Fred Blombart, who built the company on the philosophy that most people did not care what they ate, as long as it was tasty and filling. Blombart was vindicated, and Chunks products and fast food restaurants soon became ubiquitous throughout the Settled Systems. Each Chunk has the company logo stamped on one side.
The Chunks production process is a tightly-kept secret, to the extent that even most Chunks employees do not know how Chunks are made. This is exemplified by the company's employee manual, which is only three pages long and devotes one page to warning employees not to concern themselves with company secrets.
Chunks do not need to be refrigerated, though they can be. They are eaten out either straight of the package or heated. At Chunks restaurants, the food is also served with a "tangy special sauce" that is apparently manufactured at a separate facility from the Chunks themselves. The restaurant located in New Homestead often has trouble keeping up business because it never receives any special sauce shipments and can only source it intermittently from other restaurants.
The luxury resort Paradiso is home to the only upscale Chunks restaurant, called Gourmet Chunks. Although Gourmet Chunks is somewhat fancier and uniquely offers a selection of non-Chunk alcoholic and sparkling beverages, the Chunks themselves are of similar quality to those found elsewhere. The Cabernet Chunkignon flavor is exclusive to Gourmet Chunks.
Chunks was one of the few outside businesses to gain access to the House Va'ruun world of Va'ruun'kai. However, the location had to be kept a secret, which caused supply chain issues due to the use of a "long, roundabout chain of third-party merchants". Additionally, the xenophobic people of House Va'ruun held little enthusiasm to try Chunks, and sales numbers were very disappointing. The location closed in 2239, after less than five years.[1]

- According to the package, each Chunk weighs 400 grams, contains 200 large calories and 2.25 grams salt equivalent (approximately 900 milligrams of sodium). This would seem to make it a high-sodium snack but not suitable for exclusively eating. Based on the visual size, Chunks must be very physically dense as well.
- Chunks' slogans are "Choose your Chunks" and "Better than the real thing".
- According to the Settled Systems News Network, Chunks sells a festive flavor named Holiday Chunks every year during the month of December. Holiday Chunks are so popular that fans have petitioned for them to be produced year-round, but a Chunks spokesperson explained that the secret ingredients for Holiday Chunks can only be sourced in limited quantities.
