The Colony War was a bloody conflict between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective that occurred from 2308 to 2311.[1] It ended in a pyrrhic Freestar victory.[2]
While exact casualties are unknown, it is known that they numbered in the thousands,[3][4] with the United Colonies suffering over 30,000 military casualties.[5]
Background[]
Following the Narion War, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective signed the Treaty of Narion in 2216.[6] Among its terms were that no great faction was permitted to colonize more than three star systems. For the United Colonies, these were Alpha Centauri, Sol, and Wolf. For the Freestar Collective, these were Cheyenne, Volii, and the newly-acquired Narion.[7]
In 2307, just over ninety years after the signing of the Treaty of Narion, the Freestar Collective established a farm on the planet of Vesta, located in the Lunara system. As the Lunara system was not a system belonging to the Freestar Collective, this caused tensions with the United Colonies in 2308. The UC claimed that by establishing the farm, the FC had violated the treaty of Narion.[1] The UC attempted to resolve the matter diplomatically, however the Freestar would not budge,[6] insisting that the farm did not meet the criteria of being a colony and was just an outpost.[8][3]
Battle of Vesta[]
With diplomacy having failed, the UC attacks Vesta and decimates the Freestar forces, resulting in a decisive UC victory and the official start of the war.[6][8]
Battle of Niira[]
The planet of Niira in the Narion system was initially occupied by the United Colonies as a forward operating base. The Collective, however, attempted to reclaim the planet on various occasions.[9] It was one of the biggest sites of battle during the Colony War,[10] and would not end until the Armistice was signed and the war ended.
Battle of Cassiopeia[]
The Eta Cassiopeia system was a target of the war for both the UC and FC, due to its refineries being needed to bolster supplies. The battle was fought in space, with both sides losing hundreds of soldiers.[3] The outcome of the battle is unknown.
Battle of Mars[]
The FC attempted to ruin the industrial output of the United Colonies by invading Mars and wiping out Cydonia. The United Colonies defended the planet, however, utilizing its mech units to defeat the Freestar invaders. It ended in a UC victory.[11]
The Terror of Londinion[]
Londinion was a newly-formed UC city on Toliman II in the Toliman system. Due to the UC slaying many Aceles in order to supply itself with food during the war, the Terrormorph, a creature native to the planet, began to grow in number.[12] This escalated when a large swath of Terrormorphs overran the city, cutting through civilian and UC soldiers alike. To contain the Terrormorphs, Fleet Admiral FranƧois Sanon ordered the destruction of the Londinion spaceport.[13][2]
Battle of Cheyenne[]
In 2311 the UC invaded the Cheyenne system, dedicated to destroying the FC central command and finding victory. The FC fleet could not stand against the UC Navy, being crippled in battle. The course of battle changed when civilians of the Collective joined the fight, causing commanders of the UC fleet to lose their desire to fight.[14]
As a result, the major ships of the UC fleet were taken down by the combined FC fleet and civilian vessels, finding a costly victory for the forces of the Collective.[6][1]
The Armistice[]
Having suffered greatly from the war, both the United Colonies and Freestar Collective agreed to come to terms and make peace, establishing a treaty known as the Armistice. In order to promote peace, both sides agreed to reduce their armed forces and that Mechs and Xenoweapons would be outlawed,[2] its data being kept under lock and key at the Armistice Archives. As part of the peace treaty, three UC senior officers were also tried and found guilty of war crimes, these being: Admiral FranƧois Sanon, Commander Henry Durant, and General Indira Rastogi.[15]
Memorial[]

"In memory of the brave service members of the United Colonies who gave their lives in the Colony War these thirty represent the more than thirty thousand who fought and died for freedom, honor, and order."
After the war ended, the United Colonies established a monument within the MAST District of New Atlantis, a short distance removed from the Freestar Embassy. Here 30 names were recorded of fallen UC soldiers.
