Constellation is an organization in Starfield, committed to unlocking the mysteries of the galaxy.

Background

Constellation is a legendary space exploration organization based in The Lodge in New Atlantis. It was founded in 2275 by Sebastian Banks. By 2330, as the drive to explore the galaxy had waned, the Constellation had become a shadow of its former glory and few among the public were aware that it was still active. It was known as “the last group of space explorers”. Constellation is dedicated to answering the question of “What's out there?”

In 2310, Constellation obtained an alien Artifact, which was stored in the organization's archives. Barrett uncovered the Artifact in 2326 and recognized it was something special. The quest to find more Artifacts and investigate their origins became the group's new focus.

In 2328, Barrett convinced Constellation to purchase star station L-868 and modify it into a deep space scanner known as The Eye.

In 2330, after the Spacefarer comes into contact with an artifact while working for Argos Extractors, they are invited to join Constellation by Barrett. After the Spacefarer brings their artifact to Constellation's headquarters, it reacts with the other artifacts there, revealing they are fragments of a larger device. Constellation leader Sarah Morgan enlists the Spacefarer's aid in locating more artifacts to figure out what the reassembled device does.

Gameplay

Constellation is the primary quest line faction in Starfield. While there are other factions with missions, Starfield and its in-game story are largely centered around Constellation. The player must go down their quest line to unlock Powers and to reach New Game Plus (NG+).

Constellation as a faction doesn't really have any 'allies' or 'enemies' in particular. Working with Constellation will not cause issues with any other factions that the player wouldn't otherwise have. Some missions do involve fighting the Crimson Fleet, however.

Constellation also has all four of the game's romance/marriage options (Sarah, Andreja, Sam, and Barrett) in its ranks, if the player wants to go down that route. No other faction has any such options at all.
