The Distressed Ship is a random encounter ship found adrift in various systems.
Overview[]
When hailed, the captain of the Distressed Ship will ask the Spacefarer to immediately board and provide assistance, as unknown creatures have overrun the ship. The captain is too harried to provide further details. Once aboard the ship, the Spacefarer will be attacked by multiple hostile creatures called Young Gliders and Immature Gliders who have already killed several of the ship's crew. Clear out the main hab and proceed to the cockpit, where the captain is surrounded by another group of Gliders. Once all of the Gliders are dead, the captain will explain that the Distressed Ship was making a routine trip when the Gliders suddenly emerged from the cargo hold and began attacking the crew; apparently, alien eggs were among the cargo and hatched during the journey. While the captain notes that his ship has a few hidden compartments where other personnel may have taken shelter from the Gliders, he believes he is the last survivor of his crew and intends to seek out a nearby settlement where the locals can help him give the dead a proper burial.
The Spacefarer can loot the Distressed Ship's captain's locker, the corpses of the crew, and the Glider carcasses. If the captain was saved, the Distressed Ship will jump away after undocking.
