Dialogue[]

Show: Rook Meets King

"This is Dmitri Moldavski, pilot of the Ragana. We are a simple transport ship heading to New Homestead. We do not want any trouble."

[Attack] The only place you're headed for is an early grave. "Dammit! Prepare for attack!"
Looks like trouble found you. You've drawn the attention of the Crimson Fleet. "I was afraid of that. Look, we are not built for combat. What is it you want exactly?"
You have a crewman on board I'm looking for. "All right. And what are your intentions with this crewman?"
Then boy, do I have some bad news for you. "I do not understand. Please confirm your intentions."
I only have one demand. Kill Austin Rake. Do that, and I'll let you go. "I... I don't know who you're talking about."
[Attack] Wrong answer. Tell Austin Rake this is all his fault. ""Dammit! Prepare for attack!"
[Neon Street Rat] You didn't really kill Rake, did you. That was too easy. I'm going to have to destroy your ship. "Damnit, they know! Prepare for attack!"
[UC SysDef] The Fleet wants Austin Rake dead. I'd like to board your ship and talk about how to spare him.
[Crimson Fleet] Here's what's going to happen. You're going to open your hatch and I'm going to board.
"Well, normally I'd say no, but frankly, it'll be safer for us that way. All right. You can dock. We'll talk then. Okay, docking bay is open. Let's talk."

On board the ship:
-

"I'm not sure what to make of you being here. If you wanted to kill us, you could've done that from your ship. If you wanted our cargo, we could have jettisoned it. I guess I should just stop talking and let you say your piece."

[Attack] Here's what's going to happen. You're going to die, and I'm going to enjoy it. "Goddamnit! Open fire!"
Just tell me which one of you is Austin Rake. "That's not something I'm going to do. Not until you reveal your intentions. As far as you're concerned, I'm Austin Rake. You want him, you're going to have to kill me."
I wanted to make sure there wasn't any real loot on board. "Our cargo is valuable, but not in the way you mean. It's medical supplies for New Homestead. It shouldn't be any concern to you. But then again, nothing about this makes sense."
I don't know who's listening over comms. This is safer. "That's true. Which means you don't want somebody to know what you're really up to."
"Now do you mind telling us what this is all about?"
Why risk your lives to protect Rake? "I will not murder a man in cold blood. You will have to kill us all first."
[Attack] On second thought, I think I'll just kill you and figure it out from there. "Have it your way. But we're not going down without a fight!"
[Persuade] Austin Rake is a Crimson Fleet pirate. Kill him, and I let you go. "You're asking me to betray my own crew."
"All right, all right, I'll do it. I've got no love for the Fleet, and if Rake was one of them, my loyalties with him end. But if I do this, you have to promise to spare the rest of the crew, and leave the supplies for New Homestead."
[UC SysDef] The Fleet want Rake dead, but I want to resolve this without violence. "You really do not know which one of us is Rake, do you? And you do not seem to care either. Which makes me think you really want to save him. Okay, I have an idea. We can strike his name from the manifest, make it so he was never on board. Then, when we dock, we'll leave him on the ship, and deliver him to another port."
The Fleet won't buy that. Someone may need to die after all. "First you offer a peaceful solution, and now you make threats. I am not sure I trust you at all."
As long as he agrees to turn himself in to UC SysDef.
Deliver him to SysDef. If the Fleet find out about this deal, we're both exposed. "That is fair. We do not want any part of the Fleet. "
"Is that all right with you, Austin?"
(Austin:) "Do I have a choice?"
"It doesn't appear you do. Well then, it's agreed. You go back to your ship, and we'll make sure Rake was never on ours. And in case any of your handlers get suspicious, here. We had an extra crate of supplies loaded in case one got damaged. This should be proof you weren't here to bargain."
Show: Persuasions
A leader has to make hard decisions. Don't make the wrong one.
"I know you are right but... (sigh) goddamn it."
"Any decision that ends with a crew member dead is not one I am going to make."
Rake means nothing to you. Kill him and you're free.
"It's true, I do not know him that well. And some of what he says is suspicious."
"I do not have to know him. He is a member of my crew. That is enough to spare his life."
Rake is a pirate. He doesn't deserve your mercy.
"I do not know who to believe. But you would not have come all this way if you were lying."
"Whoever he was before, he is a member of my crew now."
Do the math. One dead crew member, or five. What's it gonna be?
"It is a devil's choice either way. But you have a point."
"We outnumber you. There is no guarantee you will kill us all."
Kill Rake. The longer you delay, the angrier I get.
"Please, just give me a moment to collect my thoughts..."
"You say that, but this is not a decision I can make without considering all the options."
Don't be a fool. The Crimson Fleet are not to be messed with.
"Damn. I do not really have a choice here, do I?"
"I do not even know if you are with them. Usually they are not one to talk."
And what about New Homestead? They need those supplies.
"Fair point. It is more than just my crew on the line. It is everyone in New Homestead who needs these supplies."
"Then do not kill us. Surely you still have a conscience."
Stop overthinking this. Just take out your gun and pull the trigger.
"If I agree to this... and that is a big if. That is not how this is going down. He will not suffer."
"So you do not want me to just kill him, you want me to make him suffer too? That is not going to happen."
Killing Rake is your only choice.
"Maybe so, but that does not make it easy."
"And if I make it, I'm the one who's going to have to live with it."
I'm going to count to ten. After which, I'll kill everyone on board.
"Wait! You do not need to do that. Just give me more time to think..."
"Then count. I will not murder my own crewman."
Either you kill him, or I kill you.
"That is an impossible choice. But if it is the only way to save the rest of my crew..."
"So you want me to do your dirty work? I would rather fight to save every member of my crew."
Rake wouldn't hesitate to give you up. I wonder why you're protecting him.
"I don't know. To be honest, part of me really does question how things would be, if our roles were reversed."
"It does not matter. I hold myself to a different standard."
Rake is a fugitive. You'd be doing the right thing by executing him.
"I have heard the Crimson Fleet will do anything for some credits. Maybe he's just reaping what he sowed."
"Whatever he has done, it is not up to us to judge."
