Ellie's first case was Ervin Madani vs. the Hephaestus Mining Company who accused him of causing severe ecological damage to their mining environment on Gagarin. She lost this case but continues to be one of the few lawyers willing to take the mining corporations to court.
In 2330, Barrett reaches out to Ellie to reopen Ervin's case, hoping to exonerate him. Ellie tasks Barret and the Spacefarer with finding enough solid evidence for her to reopen the case.
