Ervin Madani is a character in Starfield.
Background[]
A biologist and physician from the Freestar Collective who was recruited into Constellation during the era of Aja Mamasa's time as chair of the organization.[1] Ervin was one of the first people Barrett met after joining Constellation and moving into The Lodge. At some point, the two fell in love and got married.[2]
In May 2309, Ervin Madani was hired by Hephaestus Mining Company to eliminate an apex predator which was causing the company grief in mine H363 on Gagarin. He was assigned to work with Dr. Helgi Hauksson and successfully completed his assignment by 01 August 2309. However, when the mine subsequently ran into trouble, the company filed a claim accusing him of knowingly and illegally killing a creature “critical to the survival of the Gagarin ecosystem”; blaming him for catastrophic economic and ecologic issues occurring on the planet. Ervin sent an encrypted message to Barrett when he realized he was in trouble, begging for Constellation to send help. Unfortunately, Barrett missed the message, misinterpreting the encryption as a casualty of interstellar communication.
Ervin was killed in a crossfire between United Colonies and Freestar Collective troops before his trial. The legal summons for Ervin's trial were received the day after his funeral. His accounts on Gagarin were seized as compensation for the damages to Hephaestus, but his other assets were spared due to his death.
Ervin specialized in botany. His room in The Lodge used to be full of plants, and he even carried a plant around on trips with Barrett for years, going so far as to name it. One of his plants survived long after his death and is discovered in his Gagarin apartment long by Barrett and the Spacefarer as they seek to clear his name. Ervin found this Alien Cactus on a planet it wasn't native to — an explorer just like Constellation. Barrett names the plant Harvey.
