Maria Hughes is the chief scientist at the Nishina Research Stationon the planet of Freya III in the system of the same name. She is chief scientist within the facility and friendly with her boss, Director Kaia Patel. She was part of a team studying a gravitational distortion before an accident sealed the labs off. Since then she works with her colleagues in makeshift labs doing what they can.
