The Narion War was a conflict waged between the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies over control of the Narion system. It was fought from 2196 until 2216.[1]
Background[]
In 2194, the United Colonies established a medical starstation called the Clinic in the Narion system. Due to Narion being a system outside of UC control, this caused tensions.[2] The people of Narion saw the installation of the starstation as an attempt by the UC to expand its borders, and as such, demanded the starstation leave their system. When the UC refuses, the people of Narion held a vote[3] and requested to join the Freestar Collective.[4]
The Collective mobilized to defend its new territory in 2195, with the UC responding in kind one year later - sending a fleet into the system proper.[3] These tensions would eventually turn into war - marking the first large-scale conflict in space.[5]
During the conflict the more professional UC Navy consistently tried to pin down the more savvy Freestar fleet, with the UC employing increasingly severe tactics as their attempts to defeat the Collective failed. After years of war, this lack of results caused resentment within the UC itself, with protests breaking out even in the UC capital of New Atlantis on Jemison.[5] While the UC Navy did eventually manage to destroy the Freestar fleet, it was too little too late, and negotiations for peace ensued shortly thereafter.[5]
Despite its victory over the Collective militarily, the political situation was dire in the United Colonies, with even its own citizenry considering it the brutal aggressor in the conflict. As such, the UC complied with the demands laid out during peace negotiations, making two demands themselves.[5]
Both the Freestar Collective and the United Colonies claimed victory over the war,[2] ending the conflict with the signing of the Treaty of Narion and Narion becoming part of the Freestar Collective.[4]

- Astras were created during the Narion War as an alternative to credits due to a fear that banks might fail.[1]
