Starfield Wiki

Nishina Research Station is a large station on the planet Freya III in the Freya system. It is a research station run by the Hadron Consortium containing proprietary, confidential research. It is one of the largest locations in the game - as you can explore two separate versions of it (in two separate universes).

Background[]

Nishina Research Station is a series of labs containing scientists and security personnel. The inhabitants are dedicated to studying a gravitational distortion that was present in an Artifact that was given to them. One day Chief Engineer Rafael Aguerro went to calibrate an experiment in the control room of the main labs and accidentally caused an explosion. In one universe Rafael was the only survivor. He was forced to face some Cataxi that found their way into the station after a series of explosion took out generators that had an electric pulse running to keep the creatures out. In the other universe (the Spacefarer's universe) Rafael sacrificed himself so the others inhabitants could survive. In the latter universe, however, the inner labs were sealed off after the explosion, forcing the remaining scientists to work in makeshift labs.

Walkthrough[]

External[]

There is what seems to be a large laser cannon a short distance from the entrance to the station. Below the laser cannon is a storage crate, a battlestim and a semimetal wafer. Outside of the tent, there is a pale ale on a table. Under the tent there is a weapon rack, some ammunition and a random spacesuit on the right side, along with an advanced locked storage crate. There is also 2x metabolic agent on the left side on the cabinet next to the spacesuit workbench.

Next to the large double satellite array/large laser weapon (not sure which) is a cooler and 1 whiteout, and a digipick. Heading down the stairs to the landing pad, there will be an elevator heading up to the facility. On the landing pad itself there will be 2 xenogrub. There is also two openable storage containers, but both have nothing inside.

Heading over to the satellite array-style tower, at the base of the tower will be: a credstick, a can-uck! double double, a reactive gauge, isotopic coolant, polytextile, and zero wire. There is also a novice-locked storage box.

Head up the elevator. On the right side there is a storage box, zero wire, a reactive gauge, and a random weapon (pistol). Before heading inside, head to the right of the entrance and up the stairs to a second level (one level below the roof). Before heading up the stairs, there is a digipick, a reactive gauge, and a novice-locked storage box. Head up the stairs to the second level and to the right. Under the stairs to the roof there is cqb-x, an isocentered magnet, and a first aid kit.

Head up the next set of stairs to the roof. On the roof you will find a cqb-x, snake oil, and a pharmaceutical kit. There will also be a xenogrub crawling around. There is a room on the roof, head inside. To the left are 3 lockers containing ammo, two credsticks, a deck of cards, a pack of cigarettes, and some chunks cake. To the right are a few supply shelfs, one containing a positron battery. In a blue box below the supply shelves is 2 isotopic coolant and zero wire. Heading further into the room there is a weapon workbench with some pale ale on a yellow box beside it. To the left of the weapon workbench is some milk, sealant, and antimicrobial. To the left of that is a chunks pie, 1 open and 1 closed weapon case (the closed case containing a weapon and ammo), a toxic gas mine, and some ammunition. To the left of that is 2 lockers, containing sealant and a space undersuit, along with a weapon case on the floor. Next to the lockers is a novice-locked storage crate.

On the underside of the facility there is a storage box with a credstick, some sterile nanotubes, and a grilled cheese sandwich. In a blue bin next to the sandwich there is a reactive gauge, an isocentered magnet, and zero wire.

Nishina Research Station Interior[]

Upon entering the building, you will be scanned by Ethan Hughes and then have a short conversation with him. You will follow Ethan through the building upon entering for the first time - therefore the walkthrough will be centered around the experience you have during Entangled. Don't worry if you don't get the opportunity to loot everything in each room.

Later in the mission, you will have the opportunity to spend as much time as you want in each room in both universes where the game does not force you to jump back and forth between universes - at this point you can loot everything in an efficient manner. You don't miss out on anything if you skip looting during the forced jumps between universes. Below is a walkthrough of each section of Nishina Research Station, in both universes.

Foyer (Original Universe)[]

In the first room there is a tablet on the floor. There are some foodstuffs: milk, a meal kit, and a tranquilitea classic and earl grey pack. Other than that, there is nothing notable. You will not be able to enter security or the main hall until you proceed further in Entangled, so head into the storage section.

Foyer (Alternate Universe)[]

There are three cataxi in the lobby. There is some ammunition and heart +.

Security (Original Universe)[]

There is some ammunition, an advanced-locked weapon case containing a weapon, and a weapon rack containing a weapon and ammo. There is a coffee bag and some synthameat turkey. In a supply shelf in the corner of the room there is a positron battery. The security room has a terminal with some unique information per universe (the Security log will be different between universes). Ethan can grant you the unique Experiment A-7 in the original universe here, which always has the Exterminator weapon effect.

Elevator (Alternate Universe)[]

There is an unlocked ammo case and some ammunition before descending down the elevator.

Nishina Research Level[]

You can only enter the research level in the alternate universe. If you try to go down the elevator in the main level, you will get the message "The controls are not responding". Be aware that throughout this level, if you can take out the security camera before it sees you, you can avoid most engagements. If you don't you will be engaged by multiple turrets and robots.

Alternate Universe[]

Descend down the elevator to the research level. To the left is some isotopic coolant, zero wire, toxin, a credstick and a digipick. To the right is some ammo, a random pack, and a novice-locked storage box. The next corridor will be blocked, you will need to transfer to the original universe to open the blast door. The only way you can proceed through this level in the alternative universe is by jumping in and out of it from the original universe.

Jumping through the distortion next to the master-locked door with robots behind, you will see the same set of lockers in the original universe, but only containing two helmets. Heading into the room, you won't have to face the same robots, turret and security camera. You will find a first aid kit, storage box, squall, and heart +. In the office you will find two cred sticks, synapse alpha, and the nishina particle lab keycard (if you need it).

Jumping through the next distortion, you need to go to each room and jump back to the original universe to open the blast doors. In the room closest to the turret/camera from the original universe, you can loot a security crate, a frag grenade, fragmentation mine, a random rifle on the ground, and ammunition. The weapon rack will be empty.

Coming back through the distortion, head to the next room. There will be another distortion here to enter the original universe and proceed further. Before that, in this room you can loot a credstick, digipick, advanced locked safe, an ammo case, and a storage box.

You can loot some of the same rooms described below in the original universe - they will have nearly identical loot.

Particle Accelerator (Alternate Universe)[]

There will be a credstick and a tranquilitea breakfast on a box near the entrance.

If you enter the distortion from the expert-locked door on a cabinet there are two credsticks and a random levelled helmet and spacesuit. In a green bin there is some ammo and a random weapon and pack. There is also a broken security camera to loot. Jump through the distortion in the middle of the room to loot the office in the original universe.

Original Universe[]

There will be a message that a security lockdown is in place - emergency override is available in designated security terminals. emergency lockdown message repeating in the facility. To the left is some isotopic coolant, metabolic agent, an adaptive frame, a credstick and a digipick. On the right is an ammo case and some ammunition, a novice-locked storage box, and a random pack. There is a small piece of copper which you can acquire with the elemental pull power.

The same blast doors will be blocked. Head further into the research level to open them. There is a row of lockers. Inside you can find: a credstick, an adaptive frame, some random helmets, and some food items. Down the stairs to another set of blast doors you can see a distortion, but that one leads to a dead end.

Heading back up, opposite the lockers is a master-locked door. You can jump to the alternate reality to get inside or pick the lock. Past the door, there are two robots you'll need to take down. Entering this area will trigger the security lockdown procedures. To the right is a security camera next to a turret in the ceiling. In this first room there is a storage box and a first aid kit along with some synapse alpha and heart +. In a supply shelf there is a medpack.

You can either pick the two master locked doors or use the nishina particle lab keycard from the alternate universe.

In the first room you will find some food items and playing cards on the table. In the second room, you will find the identical key card, two cred sticks, a healing item, an isocentered magnet, and two digipicks. Proceed in the next room with the Nishina Particle Lab Keycard, however you acquired it. Heading down the stairs, at the bottom there will be a turret you need to take down with a security camera next to it. In the room on the right there will be some chunks and a distortion. All the other rooms will be blocked by blast doors, and you will need to jump to the alternate universe.

Entering the original universe again (in the room closest to the turret and security camera), you can loot an advanced-locked security crate, two stun mines, a weapon rack with random weapons and ammo, and some ammo on a shelf. Jump back to the alternate universe to get behind the other set of blast doors.

Accelerator Mainframe[]

When you jump behind the other set of blast doors, there will be a security camera, 2 turrets, and a robot to fight. You can override the lockdown from the facilities terminal, and disarm the alarm system, robots, and turrets in the room. While in this room, you can loot a storage box, first aid kit with a healing item next to it, weapon case with ammo next to it, an ammo case, a safe with a digipick and credstick next to it, There is 2 zero wire, a comm relay, and an antimicrobial in a white bin.

Particle Accelerator (Original Universe)[]

In a supply shelf, there is a digipick. You can sneak around and shut down all the security through utilization of the distortions, or just blast your way through both areas. There will be 2 turrets, 6 robots, and 4 security cameras to deal with in the original universe (in the main room). As far as loot, in the large room on the upper level there is a novice-locked weapon case and ammunition, along with a cooler. On the lower level in the middle row there is a credstick, a helmet, a reconstim, and a pack. On the lower left row there is some ammo, isotopic coolant, an expert locked weapon case, an isocentered magnet, a reconstim, and a pharmaceutical kit. On the right side behind an expert locked door is a first aid kit and a distortion - this is the utility closet section.

  • If you can open this expert locked door, you can effectively skip the large main area with Cataxi in the alternate universe and handle everything in the original universe. It allows you to unlock Accelerator control via the utility room. You skip the Accelerator robotics section in the original universe, along with the main section of the alternate universe
Accelerator Mainframe[]

If you travel through that distortion then take the next distortion in the alternate universe, you will enter Accelerator Mainframe again. There is a security camera and a turret inside. As far as loot, you can find a digipick in a supply shelf. You can find ammo, a random weapon, and a pack in the same bin as the alternate universe. There is also a random helmet, spacesuit, and 2 credsticks on the same cabinet. You can override the blast doors to accelerator control.

Accelerator Control[]

Head to accelerator control. Inside is a security camera, a turret, and two robots. It will also activate one of the robots in the main area. Inside Accelerator control is 2 ammo cases and the accelerator control room computer. In here you can override the accelerator section.

Inside Accelerator robotics, there is a weapon rack, a tau grade rheostat, 2 digipicks, snake oil, a novice-locked storage crate, some med packs, a credstick, Nishina Utility Closet Keycard, a novice-locked storage box, a battlestim, a pharamaceutical kit, a credstick, cqb-x, infantry alpha, 3 sealant, a zero wire, a comm relay, a spacesuit workbench, a weapon workbench and some food and drink items. There is also the Robotics Lab Computer. Inside this computer you can activate or update the friend/foe settings for all the robots and turrets in the area, along with deactivating the alarm.

Regardless of what you did, you will open the access tunnel in the original universe.

Access Tunnel[]

Jump through the distortion in the access tunnel.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • In the foyer (front room/lobby), there is a quote on the screen from Marie Curie (A Polish-French physicist and chemist). The quote is "Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood."
  • There is a poster in the Director's office discussing a "Sol Symphony Orchestra" and a clear reference to John Williams (the composer in Starfield's name is William Johns).
  • Nishina Research Station as a location contains (potentially) the largest amount of resources in the game in any locations. If you decide to travel between both realities and loot all the resources, you may need to make multiple trips between the station and a storage container to store away items. These resources include: reactive gauges, monopropellant, zero wire, antimicrobial, toxin, semimetal wafers, sealant, etc.
  • Interestingly, visiting Nishina before Entangled results in Ethan not allowing you inside, meaning Rafael's death is confirmed for atleast 2 weeks. After Entangled starts, you'll recieve a distress signal from Rafael. Although the quest explains the cause of the distortion, there is seemingly no explanation as to why the distortion occurred.
