One Giant Leap is the final main story mission in Starfield.
Background[]
By completing all the previous main story missions, you received all the Artifacts. All that remains is to place them in the Armillary onboard your ship.
Objectives[]
- Build the Armillary on your ship
- (Optional) Talk to your friends before you leave
- Power up the grav drive to jump to The Unity
- OR remove the Armillary to grav jump normally
Detailed Walkthrough[]
Build the Armillary on your ship — the mission marker will lead you to the Armillary.
You can speak to all the members of Constellation for some unique dialogue before transporting yourself to The Unity. The members you need to speak to are: Sarah, Barrett, Andreja, Sam, Noel, Matteo, Walter, Vladimir, Cora, and Vasco.
- Matteo, Noel, Vladimir, Walter and Vasco will not come through the Unity. Vladimir takes up the helm as the Chair of Constellation. The rest of Constellation will enter the Unity as well.
Take off into space from any planet you are on. Once in space, place at least 1 power into your grav drive. Your ship will be launched into a cutscene where you are travelling to The Unity.
Once you arrive, the screen will be dark. Then, a large black-hole-style sphere will appear, and slowly illuminate around its circumference. Surrounding it are what appears to be thousands of stars. Additionally, there are galaxy-like shapes being born (lighting up) and going dark (dying).
Walk forward. As you approach the strange figure, it will turn around, revealing that you are staring at yourself (alter-ego) in The Unity. Engage in the dialogue with yourself.
After completing the dialogue with yourself, you can walk to the other groups of people, creatures, and structures surrounding you. As you walk to each scene, your alter-ego will begin narrating how the universe will ultimately be impacted by the decisions you made throughout your current playthrough.
After finishing the dialogue with yourself and (optionally) reviewing the impact of your decisions, walk through The Unity for another cutscene, and the end credits will roll. At this point, the mission is complete.
You could also walk in the opposite direction of the Unity. This allows you to continue in the current game (current universe). The mission will remain active and can be completed later.
Notes/Trivia[]
- The mission name is a reference to the second half of an iconic quote from astronaut Neil Armstrong - the first person to step on the moon. As he first stepped on the moon, Neil stated: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."
- The first half of Neil's quote is the title of the first mission you undertake in Starfield named "One Small Step".
- After your character enters the Unity, all their property will remain in the previous universe. Only the character themselves with their level, skills, powers, research, and recipes will be transferred to New Game+ (NG+). Therefore, it is worth using the accumulated materials on any open research projects before this mission.
- If you haven't collected all 24 powers or power level ups, you should do so (although you can NG+ past 10). You can get 24 powers/24 power level ups in each new universe. Therefore, at a minimum, it will take 10 total NG+ runs to max out your Starborn powers at level 10, if you choose to do so. To do this, you need to complete the Power From Beyond mission as many times as Vladimir will give it to you. This will result in all 24 powers being acquired/levelled up in each run.
- This constant chase for power level ups through NG+ runs is the predicament the Pilgrim lives through (we see this during the mission Unity). Eventually, The Pilgrim realizes that the constant goal of chasing personal power (powers) and ignoring the rest of the universe around him was not a fulfilling way to live (to play) long term. The player may eventually become the Pilgrim after a number of repetitive NG+ runs.
