Dr. Reginald Orlase is a former United Colonies scientist in Starfield.
Background[]
Reginald Orlase was a genius at Mech engineering and developed more than a few lethal Mechanized weapons during the Colony War. He was part of the UC Navy and an acquaintance of Fleet Admiral François Sanon. However, when the Armistice came into force, his work was classified as illegal, and he fled to avoid prosecution for his assumed war crimes.
In the following years, he continued his work in secret and offered his skills to the highest bidder, making him wanted criminals in the Settled Systems. Unknown to him, François Sanon was still alive and kept in a secret prison in New Atlantis where he worked with the Government of the United Colonies to track down war criminals like him.
At an unknown time, Orlase got in possession of a spaceship called “The Warlock” and decided to hide in the orbit of Etherea in Wolf-System. But François Sanon managed to track him down and sent the Spacefarer to eliminate him. It seems that the long time in isolation has made him mentally unstable, as he begins to poetically question whom the endless void has brought to him, right before attacking.
Orlase will either die in the following battle when his ship gets destroyed, or will commit suicide if the Spacefarer manages to board his ship. He will delete almost everything from his private computer and shout that he will not die in a cage, before he injects himself with something deadly. The cockpit door stays locked until he is dead. On his corpse, a note from an unknown person can be found in which Orlase is threatened that the UC will send someone to kill or capture him.
It is later revealed that François Sanon was working with Orlase. After having served his purpose, Orlase was used as a scapegoat for Sanon's crimes.
