Security is a Novice Tech Skill.[1] It allows the Spacefarer to attempt to hack more complex locks on storage crates and doors, and increases the number of automatic hacking attempts they can bank at once.[2]

Progression and Strategy[]
Security can be a bit slow to level, as it may take time for the player to find enough locks to pick. This is especially so if the player goes a more exploration-oriented route, as locked items are usually found in "dungeon" areas or during quests. Digipicks aren't too hard to find, but the player will rapidly run out if they waste digipicks often.
Security is a must-have for Starfield. It is highly advisable for the player to unlock it early in the game. The player will find places to use it, often for valuable rewards: quest objectives, loot containers, and so on. It is a tremendously useful skill to have. Next, the player should also regularly level this skill to be able to unlock all locks. Being randomly locked out of areas or rewards due to lock level isn't the preferable set of circumstances. Security simply helps the player get the most from all of the areas in Starfield. A player could opt to go without Security, but they would be handicapping their own gameplay experience.
