Ship Customization allows the Spacefarer to alter the appearance and performance of their personal Ship in Starfield.[1]

Overview[]

Ship Customization in Starfield involves obtaining different parts, such as engines, landing gear, fuel tanks, hab modules, and weapons, and attaching them to the body of the ship at fixed attachment points. Each part affects the ship's overall performance. For example, attaching more engines will increase the ship's speed, but also its total mass, which can reduce its interstellar jump range.

Ship Customization is performed through ship technicians, who are found at spaceports. Ship technicians also offer a selection of ship parts and unmodified ships for sale. Ship services technicians that will allow the Spacefarer to customize their ship are known to be found in:

Ship services technicians in The Clinic, The Den and TMD Headquarter don't sell new spaceships, they only repair and modify them. In Neon City, technician services are provided not only at the spaceport, but also at the Stroud-Eklund showroom and the Taiyō Astroneering office. In HopeTown, the spaceport technician and Inaya Rehman inside HopeTech building both sell and modify ships. Also, while exploring planets and moons, you can meet a merchant at a Civilian Outpost who can provide ship technician services.

Requirements[]

Some customization may be gated behind certain Skills. Other than that, it is primarily a function of how many credits the player is willing to spend.

Ship Attributes[]

Ships have a number of baseline attributes that contribute their overall functionality.

  • LAS : Lasers. The ship's energy weapon damage ability.
  • BAL: Ballistics. The ship's ballistic weapon damage ability.
  • SOL: Solar. The ship's solar weapon damage ability.
  • MSL: Missiles. The ship's missile weapon damage ability.
  • TOR: Torpedos. The ship's torpedo weapon damage ability.
  • HULL: Hit points.
  • SHIELD: Health of shields. Shields must be depleted before the hull takes damage.
  • CREW: Crew slots.
  • CARGO: The cargo capacity of the ship.
  • JUMP RANGE: The number of jumps a ship can take before refueling.
  • MOBILITY: Turning speed and acceleration
  • TOP SPEED: How fast the ship can go.
  • MASS: How heavy the ship is.

Part Types[]

Ship parts

There are different part types with different functions.

  • Landing Bay: Used to board and exit the ship while it is grounded. A ship can only have one landing bay.
  • Cargo Hold: Where cargo is stored. A ship can have multiple cargo holds.
  • Cockpit: The Cockpit is where you control your ship and view your flight path. Only one cockpit module can be installed on a ship.
  • Docker: Spaceship Dockers allow you to dock with and board another vessel or a starstation. Only one docker module can be installed on a ship, and the docker has to be on the edge of the ship so it can connect to the target.
  • Engine: Every spaceship needs Engines. Upgrade to increase speed & acceleration. The mass of your entire ship will affect performance. A ship can have up to 6 engines installed, depending on the type of engine and available energy.
  • Equipment: Additional ship components such as the Scan Jammer.
  • Fuel Tank: Add fuel capacity to improve jump range. A ship can have multiple fuel tanks installed.
  • Landing Gears: Used to support the ship when planet-side. A ship requires at least two landing gears.
  • Grav Drive: A Graviton Loop Array, or Grav Drive, allows your ship to jump to other star systems. Upgrade to increase your jump range. A ship can only have one Grav drive.
  • Habs: Habitat modules are the core of most designs, and there are multiple types to fit different roles, such as a captain's quarters, crew berths, companionways, storerooms, armories, or crafting areas. A ship requires at least one hab.
  • Reactor: The main source of power for the ship. A ship is limited to one reactor.
  • Shield Generator: Provides a protective energy field for the ship. Only one shield module can be fitted on a ship.
  • Structural: Structural components are largely cosmetic, and allow you to modify your ship's shape, size, personality, and silhouette.
  • Weapons: Your ship's Weapons affect enemy ships differently in combat, depending on the damage type used. Energy affects shields, ballistic, hull, and EM systems. A ship can only carry a maximum of 3 different type of weapons.
