Surgical Strike

Surgical Strike is the fifth/sixth story mission for the Freestar Rangers in Starfield.

You need to complete both On the Run and Surgical Strike missions in any order to unlock the next story mission for the Freestar Rangers named First to Fight, First to Die.

Summary[]

Continuing my investigation into the First mercenary company and their effort to seize farmland by force, I tracked Maya Cruz, a high-ranking member of the First, to The Clinic and then to her asteroid hideout. I retrieved an encrypted slate and gave it to Ranger Alex Shadid for decryption.

Mission Stages[]

  • I'm tracking Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First who recently had emergency surgery. Marshal Blake suggested I talk to Ranger Ben Armistead at the Clinic, a sophisticated medical facility in orbit of Deepala.
  • I've arrived at the Clinic in pursuit of Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First. I met Ranger Ben Armistead, who's going to introduce me to someone who can help me locate Maya.
  • I'm tracking Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First who recently had emergency surgery. I met Ranger Ben Armistead, who introduced me to Ari Miller, the Clinic's operations manager.
  • I'm at the Clinic in pursuit of Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First. Operations manager Ari Miller gave me the names of two patients who might be Maya using an alias. He also gave me admin access to a terminal where I can trace an issue disrupting the Clinic's computer systems.
  • I'm at the Clinic in pursuit of Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First. In case Maya is using an alias, Ari Miller gave me the names of two female patients who could be her. I spoke to them, but neither fits the profile.

  • I'm in pursuit of Maya Cruz, a technical genius and senior member of the First. She'd been staying at the Clinic under an alias, but was warned that the Freestar Rangers were looking for her and fled to her hideout, an asteroid mine in the Sakharov system.
  • I've tracked down and defeated Maya Cruz, a high-ranking member of the mercenary company called the First. Now it's time to find out what she knows about the First's operations and who hired them to seize land from farmers.

Detailed Walkthrough[]

Use your grav drive to jump to Deepala (The Clinic). Dock at The Clinic. Once inside, speak to Ben Armistead. He will guide you to Ari Miller, who can better assist you with locating a patient within the facility. Ben cannot ask the doctors as they have strict confidentiality agreements/rules for patients.

After a short conversation, Ben will leave you with Ari. You can explain your situation to him. Ari will then walk you over to his terminal to check the patient database and see if he can find anyone named Maya Cruz, or anyone matching her description if she is using an alias. He isn't successful in finding the name Maya Cruz, but he has two leads in the main medical bays, Jane Nakamori and Candace Doolin. He will direct you to them first while he keeps searching through the patient database.

  • If you have the Security trait, you have some unique dialogue discussing finding the source of the slowdown of system performance. You will receive an optional task to investigate the source of the system disruption.

Head to both patients and conduct some questioning. Neither patient will be the one you are looking for.

  • If you pass a persuasion check, Jane will give herself away as a criminal. You can either accept 1000 credits from Jane to keep quiet or report this to Ben. If you report it to Ben, he will ensure you he will handle the situation so you can focus on the task at hand.

Head back to Ari Miller and speak to him.

Once you enter the VIP Wing, you will notice a dead clinic staff member. A turret will immediately begin firing on you. Take it out. Search for clues on where Maya Cruz went. You will need to find the data slate next to her bed.

Return to The Rock. Bring the encrypted slate to Alex Shadid. He will make a few comments about the slate being "interesting" and mention if you can bring him more encrypted data slates, it will add context and speed up the process of cracking the encryption (if you completed Surgical Strike before On the Run). The mission will end here and you will receive your reward.

  • If you have Sam Coe following you, he will have a unique conversation with Ben Armistead. Ben will ask Sam if he's joining the Rangers again and ask about Cora.
