Progression and Strategy[]

Targeting Control systems isn't too hard to level, as space combat is relatively easy to find between quests and random events.

There are two schools of thought involving targeting control systems: first is to disable the weapons of strong enemy ships to reduce their danger to the player, and second is to disable ships for boarding actions. These boarding actions can be either for pirating or ship acquisition. Without targeting control systems, the player will usually blow the ship up rather than disable it. It is suggested that the player take at least 1 level of Targeting Control systems early in the game. Otherwise, the player will be locked out of ships targeting functionality. This makes disabling ships for boarding actions very difficult (unless its a scripted event).
