The Terran Preservation Society (TPS) is a self proclaimed charitable society that claims to preserve the memories and cultural heritage of earth as origin of humanity. However, this is mostly scam and not even most of the members themself believe in it.
Background[]
The Society was founded in 2321 by Carl S.A. Worthington. It is unknown what his motives were or what happened to him, since he is not longer member of the Society in 2330. Officially the society was founded to preserve the memories of earth, it's different cultures and traditions. Since earth is no longer habitable, TPS considers it their duty to keep in everybodies mind that it was there, where humanity originally came from. Every new member gets a piece of stone from earth when joining.
However, it is an open secret that the society is just scam. It contains only upper-class people who can celebrate themselves for their donations at regular events and brag about it. Such events are once a month and they are usually limited to members of society and very expensive. Despite claiming that every person can become a member of TPS, the minimum donation is 5000 Credits per month. Memberships are devided in several levels, such as silver and gold. The more a member donates per month, the higher his or level becomes. While there are probably still some members who belive in the goals of the organisation, most members have already accepted what TPS really is and are more or less fine with it. Recently SSNN broadcasted a report about illegal businesses within the society, much to the anger of the current director Sheila Holbrooke.
The biggest known event of TPS is the yearly awarding of the Earth Savior Award. The ES Award is a trophy made of several rare metals from earth, covered in gold and decorated with several very worthy gemstones, including blue diamonds. The trophy usually goes to the member of society who donates most. The first person who recived the award was Benjamin Bayu, the corrupt CEO and mayor of Neon City. However, he left the society after this.
Despite the questionable moral and waste of money, some members even seem to be kind of violent. In 2329, there was a fight breaking out at the award ceremony, because the name of the winner was leaked too early. However, the only known consequence for this is that the name of the winner is now kept more secret.
In 2330, TPS has gotten into the focus of Neava Mora, the second in command of the Crimson Fleet. She and her accomplice Evgeny Rokov, captain of the luxury cruise spaceship Siren of the Stars, decided to steal the ES Award and sell it's single parts for a huge amount of credits. For this, Rokov manipulated TPS until they decided to do the nineth award ceremony on the Siren. The members were happy with the decision and the luxury on board. However, at the same time, the Crimson Fleet discovered the existance of the Legacy, a huge GalBank ship full of credits that went missing a long time ago. To find it, they needed an access code for the GalBank archives, which was in posession of a member of the society, Larry Dumbrosky. Delgado, the head of Crimson Fleet, decided to sent a new member, the Spacefarer, to obtain it. Naeva also tasked the Spacefarer to steal the ES Award while being there.
