The UC Xenowarfare Division was a division of the armed forces of the United Colonies, dedicated to controlling alien lifeforms to assist the United Colonies in warfare.

History[]

The United Colonies Xenowarfare Division was created on january 13th, 2306, when the Military, Administrative and Scientific Triumvirate made the decision to launch the project.[1] Cooperating with the UC Marine Corps to deliver specimens, the division started on research.

After a number of failures to control alien lifeforms, the Xenowarfare division would find success with the Kreet Stalker which was delivered to them on july 6th.[2] Due to this success, the facility where the research was performed was moved over[3] to a secret facility on the Freestar Collective planet of Kreet, in the Narion system. The move took from august 1st 2306 to february 11th 2307.

Upon its arrival on the planet, the research gained an actual project name: Project Petshop,[4] and by august 7th 2307, the Stalkers became the backbone of the xenowarfare division.[5] Due to the success of the Stalkers in the invasion of Vesta during the Colony War, MAST approved Project Petshop to enter into its second phase.[6]

On august 15th 2310, the UC Marines delivered a particularly dangerous alien lifeform - the Terrormorph - to the research facility on Kreet.[7] Five days later, the division attempted to install an NCI on the Terrormorph,[8] causing the creature to turn mad and break out of its containment chamber - trashing the facility and killing its scientists.[9][10]

Termination[]

When the Colony War ended in 2311, one of the terms of the Armistice was the outlawing of Xenowarfare, with its research now locked away in the Armistice Archives, guarded by both the Freestar Collective and United Colonies.[11]

Commanded Lifeforms[]

The Xenowarfare decision used a tool known as the Neural Control Interface (NCI) to control alien lifeforms. This was attempted on various different creatures, with various degrees of success. After the first failure to implement the NCI, the Division changed its policies to only apply the NCI when the alien lifeform was fully sedated.[12]

Some failed, such as an undisclosed giant spider,[12] the Akila-native Ashta,[13] or a large unspecified predator.[14]

Kreet Stalker[]

Success would finally be earned after more than half a year of research, with the Kreet Stalker successfully becoming a tool of the Division on july 6th, 2306. They were well liked due to their initial docile nature, but efficiency when on the attack.[2] By march 3rd, 2307, the Stalkers were considered an incredible boon to the United Colonies due to being easy to work with - including the installation of the NCIs - and their capacity to thrive in nearly all environments. They were also easily incorporated with the Red Devils,[15] a special division within the UC Military from Mars. On april 18th, 2308, the Xenowarfare division stopped working on the Stalkers, having provided a sufficient number to the Red Devils in the nine months of research.[16]

Heatleeches[]

On may 1st, the Project started experimenting on Heatleeches. A common pest across the Settled Systems, the creatures were attracted to heat and known to be able to decrease thruster efficiency of a spacecraft from 3% to 5%. Due to this potential, the Xenowarfare Division considered options to turn them into weapons - either altering the body to instantly disable spaceships using their siphoning, or overloading a ship by reversing the process. At the time, however, the division lacked the means to perform proper research into either.[17]

Terrormorph[]

On august 15th of 2310 the division started performing research on a captured Terrormorph.[18] On august 20th, an attempt to install an NCI on the creature after sedation was performed.[19] This failed, however, causing the creature to break free and destroy the facility.[9]

Sirens are native to the planet Lantana VIII-b. They were captured by the Red Devils from the planet and turned into xenoweapons.[20] They were transported over to Niira during the Colony War, where they fought in the Battle of Niira under the authority of the Red Devils.[21]
