Detailed Walkthrough[]
Head to the Sanctum Universum in New Atlantis. You will find Keeper Aquilus giving advice/preaching to a group of people about Unity, Matteo included. You can interrupt the sermon (which will end it, causing everyone to walk away) or wait until it is over, then talk to the Keeper. You and Matteo will ask him about the true meaning Unity - and inquire about a secret meaning. Keeper Aquilus will then request that you both talk about this with him inside. Head into the Sanctum Universum.
Sanctum Universum[]
Head to Keeper Aquilus' office and speak with him.
- If you use the Starborn option during the conversation with Keeper Aquilus, head to the Notes/Trivia section (spoilers there).
Keeper Aquilus will speak of a Pilgrim - a person who walked the Settled Systems and saw every corner of it. This "Pilgrim" claimed to have found the "true meaning of Unity". Keeper Aquilus always thought it was a parable for trying to bring humanity together - but is now considering that maybe there is more meaning to the Pilgrim's statement than that.
- If you ask Aquilus if he thinks the Pilgrim was a Starborn, he won't rule it out.
In the story Aquilus knows, the Pilgrim met the founders of the House of Enlightenment and House Va'ruun. He gave them each a "part of the Truth" (uppercase). Then, he headed to his final resting place to live out the rest of his days contemplating his "Infinitum Addendum" - meaning he lived out his days contemplating his additions/contributions to the "infinite". Aquilus wonders: What if this story isn't a metaphor, but instead it is a code? It could be a way of finding the Pilgrim - or at least his final resting place (grave). Aquilus will ask you to go speak to the two factions involved to hear their version of the story (of the "Truth"). The House of Enlightenment members (the "Enlightened") work out of the Well in New Atlantis, helping the poor find better life. As far as House Va'ruun, they are tougher to pin down, but luckily there is a lone Va'ruun zealot being held in New Atlantis - this zealot was recently captured for attacking UC ships. Aquilus has spoken to this Zealot a few times - he is hoping they will be willing to speak to you as well. Matteo will stick around and talk with the Keeper while you head to both parties and speak with them.
- "Infinitum Addendum" ends up being a clue. It begins with In- ends with -dum. This is the clue for Indum - the star system.
House of Enlightenment (New Atlantis - The Well)[]
Go to the House of Enlightenment in The Well in New Atlantis. Ask the Enlightened there (Andy Singh) about the Pilgrim. He will state that he has told the Keeper many times that there is no record of this "Unity Pilgrim". However, since you both insist, he goes back to the earliest records of the House of the Enlightened. The old records are mostly administrative: humanitarian projects, group counseling notes, charity expenditures. However, there is a series of exchanges the founding members of the House of Enlightenment recorded in a lot of detail. They seem to be the closest thing to what Aquilus is describing. He describes the story: A man walks into the first House of Enlightenment. The founders call him "The Drifter". They initially think he is a charity case, but quickly learn he is not based on his questioning to them. He asks "If your philosophy is based on an individual's own morality, what about the second person? That second person might disagree. Isn't the problem of two what you're really looking for?" The founders respond that "Each individual must understand how the second person lifts them up. All of human effort is a story of cooperation pushing us forward". It goes on and on like this. The Drifter comes back to them every week for a year with the same conversation. After records of the Drifter end, the story of the problem of two never returns again anymore in the records of the House of Enlightenment. This story gives us a clue: the number 2.
- You can also ask Andy if he has any idea what the term "Unity" could mean. He says it sounds like a gathering point, or a "center". In mathematics, it would mean one/the first/the beginning.
UC Security Office: Coordinates 4, 120[]
You will find a House Va'ruun zealot named Mir'za in the UC Security Office at the Spaceport in New Atlantis. She will first explain the background of the Great Serpent who is waiting in the shadows. The Serpent will entwine the universe and turn all but the faithful into dust. Next, she will explain the story of the "Keeper's Pilgrim", demanding that you leave once the explanation is done. She will tell you a tale of when Jinan Va'ruun met the Unbeliever. This Unbeliever gave "false prophecy" to Jinan. Due to Jinan's belief in the Great Serpent, he cuts the Pilgrim (the Unbeliever) down for committing blasphemy in the eyes of House Va'ruun by spitting what he thinks is a false prophecy. The Unbeliever (the Pilgrim) returns. Jinan interprets this as a test from the Great Serpent. Due to this, Jinan and the Unbeliever (the Pilgrim) fought 4 battles - lasting 120 rotations (120 days) on the planet they are on. The Unbeliever tells Jinan "Remember these 4 battles. Remember these 120 rotations". Jinan then "kills" the Unbeliever, which ends the story. Mir'za will then grow tired of speaking, and demand that you leave. This story gives us a clue: 4, 120. Those are coordinates.
- You can also ask Mir'za if she knows the meaning of the term "Unity". She has never heard of such a word or concept. She states that if it exists, "it is a shadow that the Great Serpent casts to deceive the faithless".
- If you haven't already, make sure you grab the skill magazine Va'ruun Scripture 01 from one of the holding cells.
Return to Keeper Aquilus and Matteo, Decipher the two halves of the "Truth"[]
After hearing both stories (receiving both clues), return to Keeper Aquilus to try to make sense of them. He will ask what you've learned. You will discuss each clue:
- For the conversation with the Enlightened, we kept hearing "two", which is clearly a clue. Aquilus' first thought is to planets; they are often named by number - that "second" might mean the second planet in the system.
- For the conversation with the Va'ruun zealot, 4 over 120 sounds awfully familiar to location coordinates.
- For the conversation with Aquilus, "Infinitum Addendum" is an oddly specific phrase mentioned in the story. Since you have coordinates and a planet number, all that remains is a star system. If you break those words down and look for a star system hidden in the parts, we find one: Indum. Infinitum begins with In-, Addendum ends with -dum.
All these combined: The second planet in Indum (Indum II) at coordinates 4, 120. That is where you will find the Pilgrim's resting place, hidden away in those tall tales. From there, you have the chance to find the true meaning of "Unity". Before departing, Keeper Aquilus asks: If you had to guess, what do you think the meaning of Unity is? After you answer, Aquilus bids you farewell, letting you know he enjoyed this endeavor and telling you to "Find your Truth".
Indum II - Pilgrim's Rest[]
Jump to the Indum star system, specifically to Indum II. Once in Indum II's orbit, open the planet map to land at “Pilgrim's Rest”. It will be a short run to get there. Once there, search for clues on the concept of the Unity. There are five books (Pilgrim's Writing 1-5) to be found.
Pilgrim's Writing 1[]
The Pilgrim's thoughts on humans change. At first, he considers "mundane" humans simple. He feels himself harboring contempt for them, but he also knows that they have blinders on - the Pilgrim knows things now that normal humans simply do not know. The Pilgrim used to be a simple human - so he understands this all too well. At this stage in his life however, he does not want to explain anything to them. He wishes to be left alone.
Pilgrim's Writing 2[]
The Pilgrim has to talk to people to live, to work, to get things done. He can't help but talk when people ask questions. They ask him questions - how can he believe in science and also the divine? He wants to nudge them in the right direction. He inherently cares for people.
Pilgrim's Writing 3[]
The Pilgrim's assistant asked if there is anything above the Unity. He gets frustrated by this question, he sees it as a clear sign of misunderstanding from the people around him. He attempts to withdraw to commune with Unity in his own way, but they all follow.
Pilgrim's Writing 4[]
The Pilgrim went through the Unity again. He feels at peace. In this universe, he is choosing to act alone. He has been spending a lot of time alone with himself - he sees that he has become a sick man. He doesn't like who he has become.
Pilgrim's Writing 5[]
The Pilgrim ponders on his past universes and potential future ones. He ponders one path: jumping from one universe to the next. Acquiring more power, more knowledge, more development of self. That road feels gratifying. He also considers a different path: He stops running, stops jumping through universes. He embraces compassion, gets to build meaningful relationships with people, with an intent to stay in the universe he is at... forever. To live a simple life, then die in the end at peace. That road also feels gratifying. When he truly analyzes each path, there is a deciding factor. In the first path (all about himself), the pleasure fades immediately. In the second path (all about enjoying the world you are in, living a normal life) the happy, fulfilled feeling endures throughout. It is more sustainable, more fulfilling, to stay and grow with others, to live out your days in one universe. He doesn't know what this conclusion means for him, but he is grateful he noticed this difference.
After reading the 5 Pilgrim's Writings or entering the room and accessing the terminal, you must answer the questions to gain access to the Pilgrim's personal room. The answers are, “What is the Unity?”, “People are necessary. But people are madness”, “Myself”, “In stopping. Embracing compassion.”
Pilgrim's Personal Room[]
In this room you will find the Pilgrim's Final Writing. Before you leave the room, if you haven't already, make sure you grab the skill magazine Trackers Primer 02.
Pilgrim's Final Writing[]
The Pilgrim is still pondering on the paths he considered in Pilgrim's Writing 5. He still doesn't know what the right answer is - what path should he take? However, he states he is comfortable with not knowing. The more he reflects on being in this world, the more he realizes it is exactly where he wants to be. He wants to build something rather than scrambling to fix one universe after another while chasing power. He can be a benefit to this universe. He's leaving behind the "all about me" version of himself, saying "let him die". He states this is the end of his journey, but to understand the full story, you need to find its beginning. He states "On Hyla II, the island hides the scorpion, and the scorpion's sting hides the truth".
Hyla II[]
Head to Hyla II. Land at the Ancient Ruins. The creatures are not aggressive, and you'll find a scorpion tailed statue and a glyph. Point the glyph to the constellation's tail by moving 3 paces left and 1 pace down. A ball of light will shine, indicating your next destination. This ball of light is the Last Star of the Scorpius Constellation. Head there. Upon departing Hyla II, you will be ambushed by a Starborn Guardian ship in orbit. Take it out. Head to the Oborum Prime star system, to the planet Oborum III.
Once you arrive, you'll see the Scorpius. The Hunter will begin to talk to you, and the mission will end.
Notes/Trivia[]
- If you have the Starborn trait, you have a dialogue option that allows you to head straight to the last star of the Scorpius constellation (Oborum Prime (Oborum III)).
- This allows you to skip the conversation with the Va'ruun prisoner and the conversation with the house of enlightenment in the Well. It also allows you to skip the visit to Pilgrim's Rest on Indum II and the visit to the scorpion statue at Hyla II. You can jump right to the encounter with The Emissary and The Hunter on the Scorpius.
Rewards[]
- 800 XP
