(For individual members, see Va'ruun Zealot) Va'ruun Zealots are religious extremists who can be encountered in Starfield. As revealed in the Shattered Space expansion, the Zealots are largely members of the exiled House Ma'leen.

The Va'ruun Zealots find their origins in House Va'ruun, specifically its religious doctrine. In 2240, after ten years of spreading their religion through peace, House Va'ruun declared war on the Settled Systems, intending to spread their faith of the Great Serpent by force in what came to be known as the Serpent's Crusade.[1] After the founder and leader of House Va'ruun died, and his son Jarek took over, peace was made. The Zealots, however, denied the legitimacy of Jarek Va'ruun and his peace accord — maintaining the fighting on their own.[2]
The Zealots are typically aggressive towards those unaffiliated with them or their faith,[3] though they are stated to also spread their word and only eliminating those who refuse to accept it.[4] By 2330, they severed all ties with their old compatriots and homeland, proclaiming themselves as wanderers. They also started occupying installations left behind from the Colony War as a means to keep themselves operational.[5]
