Starfield Wiki

Worlds Apart is a miscellaneous mission in Starfield. It starts by talking to Barrett after completing the mission Into the Unknown and learning he wants to try and acquire a Power.

Objectives[]

  • Take Barrett to [radiant planet containing Temple Sigma]
  • Help Barrett acquire his Power
  • Wait for Barrett
  • Speak with the Barretts
  • Defend against the Starborn
  • Check on Barrett

Detailed Walkthrough[]

Barrett will ask you to speak with him after completing Into the Unknown. He asks for a small favor - Vladimir has the coordinates for another temple and Barrett wants to travel there and test a theory. Barrett thinks that anyone who experienced visions when touching an Artifact can acquire powers, but wants to test that theory with you, the Spacefarer. He is curious to see if the temples work for more than just you. Once you accept, Barrett will be fixed as your active companion until this mission is complete.

He gives you the location of Temple Sigma (the template is always fixed to Sigma, and Temple Sigma always grants the power Parallel Self). Travel to the planet (it will be random) and land on the surface at Temple Sigma marker. Travel to the temple. Once you reach it, Barrett will comment that Ervin would've loved to see it. Once inside, unlock the power by travelling through the 5 glowing outlines. Barrett will follow your lead.

After going through the temple, Barrett receives the power Parallel Self allowing him to call another version of him named Barrett?. Speak to Barrett. They first theorize how this is happening (brainstorming about how this could scientifically happen), then have a discussion about the differences between each other. They decide they'll need more data before they can narrow down exactly how this occurred. Barrett will be exhausted, and there will be an in-game explanation for why you cannot summon more than one clone and why the parallel self cannot stay permanently. Barrett? will make a comment about Ervin and his daughter. Barrett (from the current universe) will ask some questions about Ervin. Barrett? will also explain that Vasco was destroyed in his universe, Aja died, and they named their daughter after her. The Colony War is still going on in Barret?'s universe. After this, the conversion ends and you hear a ship entering orbit.

After the talk, a Starborn ship will arrive with a Starborn who will attack the three of you. You need to kill the Starborn with the help of both versions of Barrett. Barrett? then disappears after Barrett tells him to take care of Ervin for him. Speak to Barrett after Barrett? disappears. He will explain the physical effects of using powers (a lore explanation for Starborn power depletion while using them). Once you finish this conversation, the mission will end and you'll receive your rewards.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • Completing this mission will unlock a new conversation option with Barrett about his power that you can ask at any time.

Bugs[]

  • This mission will sometimes be bugged, with some players reporting that they are unable to start the mission, even after completing Barrett's personal quest. PC players can work around this via console commands.
    • Since this mission is required to gain a power, players won't be able to finish getting all 24 powers if they cannot complete the mission, resulting in the requirement to travel through another NG+ for each time the bug occurs.
