Xenofresh Fisheries is a corporation operating in the Settled Systems. It is led by CEO Benjamin Bayu, who also owns a controlling stake in the company and serves as the administrator of Neon. The company's headquarters is located in Neon's Trade Tower.
Overview[]
In the late 22nd century, Xenofresh Fisheries discovered the aquatic planet Volii Alpha in the Volii system and set up a fishing platform on the planet. Not long afterward, Xenofresh discovered that one of Volii Alpha's native species, the Chasmbass, produced secretions that caused an addictive hallucinogenic effect in humans, but had no apparent harmful side effects. Medical authorities approved this drug, which named Aurora, for human use, but the United Colonies promptly banned it within its territory. This resulted in an influx of tourists to the Xenofresh platform, and Xenofresh Fisheries realized that they could make more profit from Aurora than from catching and selling fish alone. In 2187, Xenofresh transformed the platform into the pleasure city of Neon, where the Aurora flowed freely. After Volii joined the Freestar Collective in 2189, Aurora's sale and consumption was officially restricted to the confines of Neon.
As of 2330, Xenofresh Fisheries continues to control Neon and the planet Volii Alpha under the leadership of its CEO, Benjamin Bayu, who has decreed that Aurora may only be distributed legally through Boone Morgan at the Astral Lounge club in Neon's Trade Tower. As Xenofresh owns both the Trade Tower and the Astral Lounge, this arrangement gives Xenofresh a monopoly over the legal Aurora trade. Outside Neon, Aurora smuggling is a persistent problem despite the best efforts of Neon Security and the Freestar Rangers to contain it. Xenofresh Fisheries also continues to carry out its original work by fishing the seas of Volii Alpha and producing food that is eaten across the Settled Systems.
