Dialogue[]
First Encounter[]
"Welcome to the Vanguard Recruitment office. Here to join the cause? If you've got a ship and the mettle to help keep UC systems safe, the Vanguard has got a place for you.
- I'm already in the Vanguard. Captain (Name), at your service. "Ah, pleasure to me you, Captain. So then to what do I owe the visit?"
- I'm actually already in the process of joining. Just on a little detour. "Ah, one step ahead of me. So what brings you in today, then?"
- Sure. I'm interested. "Great! The official enlistment process runs through New Atlantis. Next time you're there, check in with Commander John Tuala, outside MAST. He'll get you taken care of. Now, what else did you want to discuss today?"
- I was actually hoping to chat about something else. "Not a problem. What'd you want to discuss?"
- What's the Vanguard? "The Vanguard is the United Colonies' volunteer fleet. Any pilot - UC or otherwise - is welcome to join up. You'll earn credits... and with time, your UC citizenship. Just have to complete an exam and a probationary mission and you'll be out defending the fringe in no time."
Other Encounters[]
"Hello there.
- What'd you do before you were a recruiter? "UC Marine Corps. Served in the Colony War. I can't talk about the specifics but I'm proud of what I was able to do. Being a part of something bigger than myself made me who I am today. Living in a war zone, you get a better idea of the value of life, of working together with others, of your own strengths. I'm still processing my experiences and how they changed my life, to this day."
- What brought you to Gagarin? "My family's actually lived here since the place was first settled. Gagarin's seen a lot in that time. Wasn't too long ago this was a booming manufacturing town, churning out mechs for the UC. That all went belly up when the technology was banned post-Colony War. Now we've got these outside firms buying up the old factories, bringing in new money. Honestly, I think we'll see this place get a real facelift in our lifetimes."
"Come back anytime."
UC Wants You![]
"Hey there. What can I do for you?
- I'm looking for work. "I'd love to get some more people coming in the door. Any interest in helping me distribute some recruiting materials to a couple local concerns?"
- Happy to lend a hand.
- If it pays, sure. "Got some spare credits in the coffer, sure."
- "You'll be dropping off recruitment kits to three people... Lizzy Ajello at the local watering hole, Chief Pretorius at the security office, and Dr. Keala over at the clinic. I'll pay you for the legwork, but I'll throw in some extra if you can get them to guarantee they'll actually put the materials up. That all sound like it's in your wheelhouse?"
- Consider it done. "Good. Once you're done, come back here. I'll have your credits waiting."
- Any suggestions on convincing them to share the materials? "If I knew how to do that, I wouldn't have to pay someone. But I trust you'll figure something out. So does that mean you'll do it?"
- On second thought, I'm going to pass. "Fair enough. If you decide otherwise, you just let me know."
- Not interested in recruiting for the military. "Up to you. The work will be here if you want it."
"Door's always open."
After delivering the materials:
"You managed to get those materials passed out? Folks didn't give you too much trouble, I hope."
- You owe me money. I had to pay people to take these things. "You... paid people? I guess that's one way of getting the job done..."
- Far from it. I convinced everyone to put them up. You should be rolling in new recruits. "Really? Never thought in a million years Lizzy and Doc Keala would play ball. Good work."
- I dropped them off, but people weren't real interested in putting them up. "I'm sure you did everything you could."
- It was nothing I couldn't handle. "Clearly not."
- Job's done. Now hand over my credits. "All right, all right. No need to get pushy."
- "Here. What I owe you for the deliveries... And for your top-notch negotiation skills. Thanks again for helping out."
Quotes[]
- "How can I be of service?
- "Greetings, Captain. Keeping the skies safe out there?
- "Good to see you again.
- "Welcome back.
- "Take care of yourself.
- "Some recruiters like the patriotism approach. "Duty to the UC" and all that. Personally, I've always had the best success when I level with people. Work's not as easy to come by as it has been. The military pays, pays well, and pays consistently. Recruits even get an expedited path to becoming full UC citizens. We help people build a stable foundation for their lives. Then, if they're so inclined, they can come back here and help with Gagarin's renewal. Bring some more credits home, too. Everyone benefits. You make that clear to these folks you're visiting, and I expect they'll get onboard." -During "UC Wants You!"
